Just a quick update for all who have ever so kindly sponsored and supported us at our fundraising events.
After holding two events up north and an amazing one in the Gherkin in London, I’m at about 70% of the fundraising target.
There’s still time so if you haven’t yet donated but were meaning to, please do so here! JustGiving
We travel down to Heathrow on Friday night, ready to fly around 7.30 on Saturday morning.
Due to a house move, three exams and an incredibly busy period at work, my training schedule has been pretty woeful! I am therefore cramming in the training – much as I did with my exams – though I’m not sure it works the same way!
My biggest concerns on the trail, in order of the most worrying are:
- spiders! Apparently there’s bears and all manner of animals on the trail. They don’t scare me. The tarantulas do!
- altitude sickness. This is my one real worry as there is little that can be done to prevent it – just fingers crossed that I’m not a person who gets affected by it.
- blisters. I have been trying to break in my hiking boots, but lack of time has meant there nowhere near as worn as I would like. And trekking for around 8 hours per day for 5 days with blisters would NOT be fun!
But other than those, I am really looking forward to the challenge! We are in a group of 18, all who have raised funds for charities close to their hearts and I’m hoping it will be a great group and we can all offer each other a lot of support.
There is, unsurprisingly, little in the way of comms out there and so I won’t be able to update you as we go along but I’ll be sure to post and let everyone know how it went as soon as we’re back in the land of wifi!
Thanks so much for everyone’s kindness, generosity and support. We have really appreciated it.
